The original lineup of Freddie & the Screamers was (L-R) Larry Parypa, Barry Curtis, Ron Woods, Andy Parypa and Freddie Dennis. Photo courtesy Freddy Dennis.
Freddie Dennis has mostly been in Sonics mode lately. He plays bass and sings for the iconic Tacoma garage-rock band, which just got back from a New York benefit for Norton Records, a label devastated by Hurricane Sandy.
But next weekend Dennis gets to switch gears, strap on his guitar and play with his other band, Freddie & the Screamers. On April 28, the Northwest super-group – which features members of the Sonics and the Kingsmen – will headline Louie G's Pizza to raise funds for Ted Brown Music Outreach, a local non-profit group that's provided camps, training and musical instruments for area kids since 2007.
We'll have a related story in this week's paper. But before that hits the streets, you can check out this clip of Dennis talking about how the original Screamers formed in the late '70s.
