The future of the Blues packs a wallop, a 190 Proof wallop! Marty Sammon and Tom Holland of “190 Proof Blues” fame began their musical association in their teens. They grew up in the same area on the Southwest side and sat in and/or played on each others gigs starting when they were about 18 years old. By the time they were pushing the ripe old age of 20 they had both made names for themselves on the Chicago club circuit on both the North and South sides of the city, and were traveling internationally with “name” Blues acts such as John Primer, Eddie Clearwater, Otis Rush, and Phil Guy along with lesser known though, no less important, local Blues acts before settling into long runs with Blues legends Buddy Guy (Marty) and James Cotton (Tom). DopplerVision is proud to present, together for the first time, Marty Sammon and Tom Holland in their duo debut album “Marty Sammon/Tom Holland 190 Proof Blues”! Backed only by their own piano and guitar accompaniment, along with a mighty contribution of “harp” from “Big D” on some tunes, Tom and Marty’s talent comes shining through on a wide variety of Blues standards and originals, the rhythmic drive and melodic lyricism of which has to be heard to be believed.
