Patrik Jansson Band was formed in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden in late 2007. After playing drums in various blues bands and jazz combos, hard-rock and metal acts for several years, Patrik decided it was time for another challenge. He picked up the guitar and started playing and singing in hopes of developing as a songwriter and a musician. “I’ve always loved to learn new things” he says. With a passion for heavy Texas blues and with a new mission in life he started looking for musicians to play with. “I had a pretty clear idea of what I was looking for” he says, “I wanted to play blues with a more modern approach. Blues is supposed to feel fresh and alive, it’s a most vital music in my opinion. In short I wanted to play the kind of music that I would like to hear myself and that I think a lot of other people would like and appreciate”.
In the beginning of 2011 PJB released their self-titled
critically acclaimed debut album on the Sneaky Foot Records label. The music
could best be described as a mix of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter,
Guy, Freddie King and Joe Bonamassa, to name a few of the influences.
After some line-up changes it was time to start writing songs for the follow up to the debut album and in late 2013 the band entered the studio to record “Here We Are” their second full length album, an album full of heavy, funky, groovy blues with a focus on strong melodies and great songwriting.
With guest appearances from Mikael Fall (Harmonica world champion 2013) and the great Swedish female blues singer Lisa Lystam, the record is full of great songs and great performances. A lot has happened since the start in 2007 and since the first record, and it becomes even clearer when you listen to the new record. It’s a heavier, darker and more mature band you'll be hearing. "I put a lot of time and effort into making this record and I really try to make my music mean something, I try to write songs that make you feel something, songs that matter and I believe we're gotten closer to that goal with the new record and I think you will hear it when you listen to it. I hope you enjoy it”.
The current line up includes Patrik Jansson - Guitar & Vocals, Petter
Stenberg - Organ & keys, Per Wallander – Bass, Patrik Thelin - Drums
Patrik Jansson, Singer, Guitar player, Drummer, Composer and Producer, was born in the small town of Gävle in the middle/north of Sweden. He started playing drums at an early age and in he’s early twenties he moved to the capital of Sweden, Stockholm, to study music and pursue a career in the music business. As a drummer he played everything from Jazz and Blues with small combos and big bands to punk-rock and metal with touring acts. He also started playing piano, bass and guitar and got more into songwriting and playing the blues. After playing guitar for a couple of years he formed the Patrik Jansson Band in 2007 and 2011 saw the release of the debut album -“Patrik Jansson Band” which contained 10 original compositions.
The songs on the album were written over a long period of time and shows a few of he’s influences like Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, Freddie King, Joe Bonamassa, Albert Collins, ZZ Top and John Mayall to name a few.
Here are a few reviews of the first album;
“While this is not an extraordinary album, it shows that this guy and his band can write and play some good original songs and hold their own as a rocking blues band. I look forward to hearing more in the future from these young gents as they grow their blues band side a bit." -Steve Jones, Blues Blast Magazine.
"Patrik’s voice is much in line with Jeff Healey (remember his presence in the 80’s scene?), and while not metal I can take solace in the fact that when I need some old fashioned blues rock, the Patrik Jansson Band keep me company just fine." -Matt Coe, Eternal Terror Webzine.
"The music is good; the only small criticism is that Jansson’s voice is a little flat – but, as he more than makes up for it with this guitar work and his song writing, this is a small point that can be easily overlooked."-Terry Clear, Blues Bytes.
After moving from Stockholm to the small town of Avesta in late 2012 to be able to focus more on the things that matter the most namely he’s family and he’s music, he started writing songs for the follow up to “Patrik Jansson Band” and in the end of 2013 the band entered the studio to record “Here We Are” released April 2014.
Patrik Jansson is currently also the drummer in Northern-rock act Hellsingland Underground as well as hard rock/metal band Laney´s Legion and the Viacheslav Preobrazhenski Quartet, a mainstream Jazz combo. He's also doing other session work when he’s not busy playing guitar and singing with PJB, Patrik Jansson Band.
