Paul Newnum, Smokestack Lightnin' Disc Jockey
Place of Birth: Indianapolis, Indiana (The original home of speed - The Indianapolis 500)
Hobbies, Interests: Following Indiana University basketball, open wheel racing, and endurance car racing, reading, working on our home, walking on the beach, swimming, and of course, hosting the show and listening to great music.
Family Facts: Our three sons have completely different tastes in music -- our five year old most likes to hear his name on the radio. All of my four sisters and I played at least one instrument in grade school -- I played the cello and the piano before picking up a harmonica for fun. My dad is a retired physician, and my mother fixes the best oyster stew, onion pie and chili (to name just a few of her delectable dishes) anywhere. My wife Jane is a successful business leader (www.mysteryguestinc.com) and is a wonderful mother and partner.
Most Influenced By: Peanut Butter and the Jellies, Josh White, Sarah Vaughan, SRV, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, Lowell George, Little Feat, David Darling (my former teacher, and former cellist for the Paul Winter Consort, David is currently a solo artist who disdains the use of "cigar boxes" as substitutes for quality stringed instruments of any kind), Duane Allman, Edward Kennedy Ellington, McKinley Morganfield, The Mamas and the Papas, and the "Five B's" -- Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, The Beatles and The Byrds.
Other Stuff: I've been accused of practicing law. "Gotta Sue Somebody" . . .
